...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead was formed in late 1994 by singers/guitarists/drummers Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, longtime friends who originally met in Hawaii before both settled in the perennial indie hotbed of Olympia, WA (where Reece fronted the notorious Mukilteo Fairies). Intricate and reflective as well as gripping and raw, Source Codes & Tags marks And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead's leap from the venerable indie imprint Merge to Interscope's major-label territory. It's a seamless transition, mixing the sweeping, fearlessly anthemic qualities of their previous work with a newfound sheen that actually makes the music's earnest roughness stand out more. Sculpted, gorgeous-yet-gritty melodies drive quintessentially AYWKUBTTOD epics like {&"Another Morni [ read more ]

As hinted to on the Trail of Dead single by the say name, a new sound is revealad and a new direction is setting in as their quest furthers. "...Their music draws on the unholy rage of Fugazi, the supernatural guitar clangor of Sonic Youth, and the riotous energy of At the Drive-In. The quartet has long been hailed as "the future of rock" by both a fawning U.K. press and various high brow U.S. publications" - Revolver

VINYL FORMAT. Highly recommended! Before Trail of Dead signed to a major, they were on an indie label and toured the country in broken down vans and played in basements. See where all the hype started! 'There is nothing left to say that has not been said,' is the defining line of Madonna's opening track, 'Mistakes and Regrets.' You can see where the guy's coming from with that statement -- because for every perfectly phrased, eye-opening thought that comes out of rock music, there are a million indie pop ba [ read more ]

Just over a year after releasing their brilliant Source Tags & Codes, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead return with Secret of Elena's Tomb, five new songs that continue the band's creative winning streak. Paradoxically enough, the condensed EP form shows off the band's progress better than a full-length album might -- within 20 minutes, Secret of Elena's Tomb spans the experimental rock and pretty but still powerful ballads that made Source Tags one of 2002's best albums, as [ read more ]
