Mr funk just keeps them coming.......! This time opting for a more compact moniker, Vsnares differentiates itself from its Venetian counterpart with a slant in sound that leans more towards Richard James than DHR. This is still an undeniably spannered record, but the Amen breaks are often replaced with a more intricate digital cut-up, and the odd moment of introspection presents itself to vary the mood. 'Underground Circus Jesus' opens the album like a
Tasmanian devil, imaging Drukqs manipulated and diced up several times for added pressure and fuzziness for an idea. 'Twisting Ligneous' unleashes pure vitriol in totally ace hardcore fashion, endless time stretches and blistering breaks....5 minutes in and, suddenly, out of nowhere, a dub break drops and turns you into a skanking sailor. Awesome stuff. 'We Are Cesspools' is very Jazz-flavoured Squarepusher, all very unnerving and bizarre, free jazz given abuse by signal delays and pitch shifts...even a blues vocal drops in to say hello and mess with yo mind. And that's just to prepare you for 'Sybian Rock', undoubtedly Mr Snares heaviest, hardest, dirtiest tracks to date, a 49 second Thrash Metal assault that will have u shitting yr pants...in the nicest possible way, off course. Tigerbeat affiliate Cex drops in for the party on 'Stamina' - an eye opening hip hop break, Cello strings and Piano keys meshing together in a real lush moment that brings the record full circle, illustrating once again just how talented and varied Mr Snares really is. Excellent stuff.
