400 Years
Four Hundred Years began in Tucson, Arizona, following the break-up of Groundwork, and eventually found a home in Richmond, Virginia. The band's albums capture a frenzy of hardcore intensity, built around simultaneously emotional and political themes.

The band began to write intense hardcore songs with a sound descended from Rites of Spring, Fugazi and Hoover. Their full-length debut, {^Tra...[more]

Another brilliantly crafted release from the 400 Years kids. This band can move from angry, choppy rhythms to pretty, almost poppy melodies so abruptly that it is often unexpected. On Transmit Failure, the band offers some of its most moving work to date -- tracks like the desperate "An Hour Too Late" and the piano-accompanied "Throw Spark" are forceful and beautiful in the same breath. A must-have for those who can mix metal with their emo, similar to bands such as the Sleepytime Trio, {$Boy [ read more ]

A third and final installment in the classic 400 Years protocol of combining mechanical, grindy, screamish hardcore with poppy, melodic punk sounds. Drifting back to the sound on their first album from their more polished second album Transmit Failure, The New Imperialism again captures the more raw, sandpaper-scraped side of the band, erupting in the classic hardcore sounds not unlike veterans Policy of Three and Moss Icon, or labelmates Engine Down.
