2006, Force Tracks
VINYL FORMAT. After five long years, this is the second album from Swedish producer Erik Möller. Since the mid-nineties he's been spreading his unique form of dub-house/disco on labels like Naked Music, Raum Musik, Sub Static, Punkt Music, Holistic, Eloge, and Facets. The Unai on A Love Moderne is quite different from the man we used to know. The abstract futurism is still there, but somewhere on the way Unai unbuttoned his shirt and let the pop and the disco in, forsaking minimal techno in favor of melancholic diskotroniks. On A Love Moderne Unai sounds like the unknown lovechild of Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant and Basic Channel's Moritz von . A Love Moderne is about loving aristocratic pop as much as bunker techno, and that these two elements together make the most beautiful modern love soundtrack. The clash is most obvious on cuts like "Heart Is To The Left," "Youngkiss" and "Blissful Burden," where stripped-to-the-bone electronics meets heartaching pop head on. On top of this you get the cut up future-disco of "Moderne Love" and "Lucky Bastard," not to mention the grand finale of glacial ambient pop that is "Exit Wounds." If there's a wave of techno pop that slowly but surely has been rising in the last few years, Unai and A Love Moderne is truly the crest of it.
