2003, Troubleman Unlimited
ABCS is a trio of accordion, drums, and saxophone from Brooklyn/DC, and we are proud to bring you their debut release entitled ABCS. Their live performances are striking in the way everything "fits" - like one organic unit, as if instead of three players and three instruments, there's really only one throbbing being. It's trite to say that they eschew genres, but in truth it's difficult to pinpoint their sound, one of intense dynamics, interlaced melodies, part jazz, part rock, part ambient, part something else. To listen to them is to witness an organism with all its intricate workings. They take extremely odd and complex, yet melodic time signatures and interlace them with flowing, almost ambient undertones to create a sound all their own. The three musicians Gabe Andruzzi (saxophone), Josh Blair (drums), and Pete Cafarella (accordion)- thus A-B-C have been playing together for two years and have toured the USA once, winning over crowds at every show. Although ABCS do not perform in the traditional "rock and roll" setting, they fit well within the parameters of what Troubleman is trying to document.
