AIDS Wolf
A noisy experimental band with "improv tendencies," AIDS Wolf are good friends with the Unicorns, Wolf Parade, and others in the Montreal indie scene, but their chaotic sound has much more to do with Whitehouse and An Albatross, two bands they've shared the stage with. After touring across Canada, AIDS Wolf kicked off their first European tour in early 2006 as their debut, The Lovvers LP, was being released by the Lovepump United label. By the end of the year, Clash of the Life-Force Warriors was unleashed. Members Chloe Lum and {$Yannick De...[more]

AIDS Wolf embraces the hate. If they can't draw you in, they will make you run away cursing and bitching. Their songs speak to the terminally alienated, the relentlessly negative, the inherently repugnant. The Montreal four-piece (two guitars, drums and insane warbling) formed in early 2003, to the protestations of most of humanity. Since the beginning, they've sought to live the life: to practice complete aesthetic immersion, create music in some form every day, and live healthfully to facilitate [ read more ]

While it's true that AIDS Wolf and Athletic Automaton have been and remain two separate bands, the word "versus" in this set is slightly misleading. Clash of the Life-Force Warriors is basically both bands playing with one another in various configurations. People switched sides, participated partially in places, etc. -- it's a real mess. To add to the confusion there are supposedly some Athletic Automaton "songs" and some AIDS Wolf "songs" -- but there are far more Life-Force Warriors "so [ read more ]

Montreal's AIDS Wolf return to making full-length releases after an EP, the psychotic Lovvers LP, Clash of the Life-Force Warriors, and their split with Athletic Automaton. Anyone familiar with AIDS Wolf's particular brand of noise has an idea of what to expect. For the uninitiated or traumatized, Cities of Glass (a paraphrase on Paul Auster's {-City of Glass}? Who knows?) is more extreme than anything this quartet -- two guitars, drums, and completely flip-to-wig city warbling and scre [ read more ]
