2005, Hometapes
This debut release by Feathers is part 1 in a series of 3 CDEPs by the Miami artist, and has been a long time in the making. Eddie Alonso is the mastermind behind Feathers and has been slaving away for years writing beautiful instrumental pop gems with one ear turned toward the past and one pointed directly at the future. When it came time to record the songs he had arranged, Eddie packed up and went to Chicago to work at Soma Electronic Music Studios with John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake, et al) and Mikael Jorgenson (Wilco). Feathers began to take shape with Soma's pristine collection of classical analog synthesizers, strings and flutes thanks to Fred Lonberg-Holm (Bobby Conn, U.S. Maple, etc.) and Paul Mertens (Brian Wilson's Smile) and a bevy of instruments from marimba to electric sitar. Now we are left with the first document from this ongoing project, a kaleidoscopic display of sounds and moods sure to find a home with fans of psych-pop like Broadcast, Stereolab, High Llamas or even Yellow Magic Orchestra. The packaging is deluxe letterpress cardboard digipaks printed by Stumptown Printers in Portland, Oregon.
