Daylight EP (12")
VINYL FORMAT. Picking up the theme from Labor Days, his groundbreaking debut album on Def Jux, Aesop Rock returns to his undergound journey with the stellar follow-up EP, Daylight. Manhattan's favorite son and one of indie hip-hop's fastest rising names, Aesop sets it off with the title track, Daylight, a standout cut from the LP, then continues with five exclusive new cuts and the irresistible track "Maintenance." Featuring first-rate production from El-P, Blockhead, and Aesop himself, plus a blazing guest appearance from Blueprint, Daylight sets an agenda for quality, originality, and straight up excellence that will leave others struggling to catch up.

| This album is excessively tight from start to finish. Aesop Rock and Blockhead make waves as they trudge through the muckwaters of life in NYC post 9/11, and actually put a feeling of the aftermath across without either sacrificing any artistic integrity or losing the interest of the listener. The only reason I give this album 3 stars instead of 4 is that Aesop Rock is just better and for more songs on Labor Days (barring the b-side track on Daylight called "Night Light"... that track is astounding), and he's just slightly too fond of the word "pedagogue". Great word, but enough is enough. | |
