2009, Rhino
VINYL FORMAT. Never at a loss to mock the mainstream, John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, wrapped P.I.L.'s 1985 effort in a generic package stamped "album" that was alternately called "cassette" or "compact disc", depending on the format. The sound was anything but generic, though, melding the styles of such disparate collaborators as Steve Vai and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The hit "Rise" skillfully weaves Lydon's venomous punk delivery against a backdrop of heavy-rock and Celtic folk. Other high points on this venture include "FFF" and "Home". Pressed on 180 gram vinyl.
