2004, Lookout! Records
This is it, symphonic pop without the symphony! For Alcatraz, The Mr. T Experience created a sonic explosion of big production numbers, blended seamlessly to create a sophisticated pop album. Take the charm and alien-ness of the Ramones, add on 70's power pop and England's the Swell Maps, texture it with Elvis Costello, season with Robyn Hitchcock's Soft Boys and you might have some idea of what this record is. Nonetheless, it's unmistakably MTX. The songs themselves are memorable and unique. "Naomi," possibly the best song Dr. Frank has ever written, is about Beauty Myth author Naomi Wolf. "Reactivate My Heart" is a bass driven, organ laden, powerful pop song. The organ also plays a strong role in songs like the grooving descent of "We're Not No One."
