2000, Bad Jazz (UK)
After years of tinkering around his Minneapolis bedroom studio, with a dying sampler and electronic toys, self-confessed hermit and gadget geek, Howard W. Hamilton (aka Mr. Busy Signals) finally unleashed his debut record, Baby's First Beats (released on Earworm in Europe and Sugarfree in the U.S.), to an unsuspecting audience last month. With old skool hip-hop break-beats, oddball cut and paste sampling, fused with infectiously hum-able melodies, 'Baby's First Beats' has been gaining rave review from all that have heard it. Mojo magazine recently awarded it 'album of the month' and described HWH3 as "…a bubblegum version of the Eels, a West Coast Cornershop, or one of the Elephant 6 collective given a cut'n'paste remix by Solex...".
