2011, Xemu Records
VINYL FORMAT. On white vinyl! Alone is the second album from the up and coming shoegaze pop rock outfit from Australia, The Morning After Girls. 'If there were a Grammy for shoegaze album of the year - and I had the power to nominate people for Grammys - The Morning After Girls would be my front-runner this time around. Imagine if My Bloody Valentine, Oasis and the Jesus and Mary Chain (and a few other such bands I'm probably forgetting) were all making sincere attempts at copping each others' sounds in a way that didn't sound at all like stealing. Further proof that the alternative noise of the late '80s and early '90s are back (check out the Silversun Pickups if you don't believe me), just like the synth-pop '80s had a few years' worth of ironic re-imagining. Songs are sad (of course), warm and backed by sweeping walls of noise. And somehow, it's all still upbeat and, I imagine, quite a show to see live. For a band still fairly new on the scene, it's surprising to see this developed a sound. I look forward to seeing how they progress in the coming years.' - BuzzGrinder.com
