The Most Serene Republic follows a kind of musical continuum. From Underwater Cinematographer (their debut) to Phages (their EP) to Population (their follow-up album), and now with ...And the Ever Expanding Universe, the band's repertoire runs the gamut from prog-rock to densely layered indie-pop. TMSR harmoniously combine traditional instrumentation with strings, banjos and digital programming. Their music demands your involvement - and though you might find yourself digging a little deeper with each song, their art is worth the excavation.
Hailing from the Toronto suburb of Milton, Ontario, the young septet (now each 24-years old_ has performed together for a half dozen years. The band is very much a product of their wide ranging personalities, beginning with Ryan Lenssen's classical piano experience and an obsession with musical history; and singer/lyricist Adrian Jewett's Joycian stream-of-conscious lyrics and larger than life stage personality. TMSR's instrumental expertise is undeniable, both on stage in live performance and on recorded album.
Produced by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Super Furry Animals, Los Campesinos!) ...And the Ever Expanding Universe shows The Most Serene Republic confidently striding forward with a more mature, diverse and exhilarating sound.
