Weird Weight (BOOK)
100pg, full color, 6.5" x 8.5" perfect bound book
There is something otherworldly to Andy Dixon's unique visual genius that thrives in mystery. It's equal parts punk rock, art school experimentation, graffiti, typographic maverick and childlike dreamscapes. It's like Basquiat and Twombly in a punk rock duel. Andy's work is notable for his exposure of process. He often highlights mistakes, typos and breaks in form. But he marries this with an almost effortless sense of composition and typography that he, perhaps, does not get enough credit for. Andy isn't simply a great artist. He is also a great designer.
Andy is an important artist and a key figure in the music and art scene of Vancouver. He has been releasing art-punk records on his label, Ache, for many years. He has played in countless bands, collaborated with several local fine artists, produced music under his own name, and designed album art, websites, and posters. Weird Weight is full of surprises. Animal-machine hybrids. Baby monsters. Runaway scissors. Shocking blues and pinks. Throwaway thoughts and captions. Discarded documents. And brilliant (intentional) mistakes. It is a wonderful, fitting document for one of our favorite artists.
