Funeral was a phenomenon. It was the most mature (maturest?) debut I've heard in a long time. Everything needed for a instant clasic was already in place: a theme, a sound, and a group of musicians who clearly were doing what they loved. Well here's the prequel of sorts, and unlike some other recent prequels, it doesn't disappoint...unless you were expecting Funeral 0.5. Instead, we get a much more ramshackle sound (which I sometimes prefer actually). It is a looser dynamic and overall sounds less produced, but the groundwork for the debut are clearly here. No Cars Go, in particular, is right up there with the best of Funeral. Required listening for Arcade Fire fans.
