Musically, there are bits of The Stone Roses, "What's The Story Morning Glory", and "Nevermind". As catchy as those reference points are, it's the songwriting that has won the band a fiercely dedicated following; a mix of the observational storytelling of Davies and Weller crossed with the harsher documentary eye of Mike Skinner of The Streets and "Ghost Town" era Specials. Two #1 UK singles. Press already lined up with Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly, and Interview, to name a few. Three more US/Canadian tours planned for this year, including headlining Domino's label showcase at SXSW.

| i just bought this album last week and yes, i am already giving it an A+ (hint: go buy it now.) upon first listen, i was instantly intrigued by the jammy dance beat and infectious rock riffs. ive already listened to it 7 times and each time it gets better. this band must have practiced hard because their sound is so tight. this is the newest, freshest rock sound. it sounds familiar only because its good and its something you wanna hear. it doesnt sound like anything you've heard before. and you need to hear it. | |

| To call the Arctic Monkeys this year's hot shit shot for lasting pop fame is an understatement. Trendy-for-now bands are two quid a dozen, but no TV-contest insta-stars, moptop Liverpuds, or even brothers Gibb have ever made as big a splash in Great Britain in as short a time as these Sheffield teenagers. At moments tuneful, stylish, and brilliant and at others barely passable crunchy rock, half of "Whatever People Say I Am" is somewhat reminiscent of the grunge era. There's little argument, however, that the as-it-happens mood and fashionably populist story arc captured by lead singer Alex Turner's lyrics are a shot in the arm for the stodgy British music scene, whose recent successes include notable dreck like James Blunt and Joss Stone. Although neither the Arctic Monkeys' first few singles nor the album as a whole are as exciting or enduring as the first releases by stylistic touchstones The Strokes or The Libertines, the lads are certainly on to something, however. Check in on them in two years -- pounds to donuts I bet they've figured out how to make the most of the tension between Turner's lyrics and their sonic potential. | |

| It's good in its own little way. I don't really get all the hype.
I've seen them play live and I prefer them that way. I think the songs on this album could have been a little darker and have less dancey moments throughout.
What do I know though? Buy it and decide if you want to add to the hype these lads have got behind them. | |

| I really like this album. I would not give it an A but it is darn close. They definitely sound like The Libertines to me except I like them better. The first song "The View From The Afternoon" is great and my other favorite song is "Dancing Shoes." This album really rocks out and yet it does have parts that are more dancey (if thats a word). But if you like UK style rock, punk, dance, whatever you want to call it, pick up this album as soon as possible. | |

| This album is fucking unbelievable!! I woke up this morning and the first song in my head was the single. Their songs have the feeling of The Libertines, Clash, The Jam and all your favourite English music. And almost the whole album has dancing parts and future hits. | |
