Arthur's Landing is a broad collective of musicians that worked with the late and revered Downtown New York composer, cellist and singer Arthur Russell, at different times during his career - from his experimental acoustic work (World of Echo) to his disco influenced projects (Loose Joints, Dinosaur L). Led by guitarist Steven Hall, the band are committed to sustaining the creative and performance ethic of his time and the line-up comprises a core of six members, all respected musicians in their own right, with guests joining for specific recordings and live shows. The debut Arthur's Landing album comprises entirely new versions of Russell songs, some known, some never previously heard, and is produced and mixed by Brennan Green and the band's Peter Zummo. Tracks include a new mid-tempo update of the Loose Joints anthem 'Is It All Over My Face,' re-worked as 'Love Dancing,' 'Your Motion Says' complete with santur-intro, and 'In the Light of the Miracle,' re-worked as 'Miracle 2,' featuring original co-composer Elodie Lauten. Re-discovered Russell songs include the surreal 'I'll Be Fencing,' voiced by bassist Ernie Brooks, previously only a demo idea.
