2010, Vagrant Records
It's been ten years since Far decided to call it quits, twelve since the release of their breakthrough album, Water and Solutions. Amazing how some bands hold on too long, while bands like Far split up before the world can catch up to their unique sound and style. Since that breakup countless numbers of bands have stepped out citing Far as a profound influence. Deftones, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance and many others have all openly spoken about how much the band meant to them in their younger days, and how on the cutting edge Far was at a time when grunge still dominated the world. Fast forward ten years and we find Far creating a new album that can compete with anything their contemporaries are churning out. At Night We Live is loaded with huge, massive rock riffs, soaring choruses, and a production job that any big name, big studio producer would be proud to put their name on. . . only Shaun Lopez, the band's guitarist, produced the album himself at his home studio. The band found itself back in the public eye last year, as their just-for-fun cover version of the song "Pony" (originally recorded by R&B crooner Ginuwine) started making its way onto the airwaves of some of America's biggest alternative radio stations. And although that song may have brought the band's name back, by no means should the band's reunion be taken lightly. At Night We Live is a powerful record that is sure to please old fans, while letting newbies know what they've missed for the last ten years.
