The debut release from this NYC assemblage whose musical recipe is simple: combine indie rock, '70s funk & soul, and organic hip-hop. Moving way beyond the hip-hop standard of turntables and samples, AUTOMATO create, play, and record all their songs with traditional instrumentation -- drums, guitar, bass, and keyboards -- with a few antique Moogs, vintage electronics, and processors thrown in for good measure. With brothers-in-arms James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy of the DFA manning the boards, they've created a kind of hipster rock-hop -- sure to be treasured by discerning human-music-loving robots of the future.
