2003, Committee to Keep Music Evil
LOVETONES' MATTHEW J TOW first caught the world's attention through his previous band DROP CITY, who combined ethereal pop melodies and lush psychedelic textures. DROP CITY released five albums internationally, and toured all over the world playing with STEREOLAB, the MANIC STREET PREACHERS and the STONE ROSES. Choosing to quit at their peak, TOW took some time off to write and record in the USA (with BJM's ANTON NEWCOMBE, among others) and UK. In 2001, TOW returned to Australia with the idea of making a mature-sounding pop record that would combine the pioneering spirit of latter-period BEATLES and the heartfelt melodies of US singer-songwriter ELLIOTT SMITH. The result is THE LOVETONES' Be What You Want album : a striking piece of pop if ever there was one. Featuring all the trademarks of a breakthrough album - soul stirring lyrics, memorable melodies and commanding sound - it's destined to bring THE LOVETONES universal success.
