2003, Southern
The organ-drenched brand of '70s metal is the most obvious antecedent of Darediablo, a New York City outfit that combines heavy rock with crisp rhythmic work and unexpected shifts. Their third full-length CD, Bedtime Stories, is not for the faint of heart. From the thumping opener, "Sigurd the Dragon Slayer," to the dynamic closer, "Shipping & Handling," the album rocks out relentlessly. And make no mistake, this is a rock band. Those looking for head-in-the-clouds noodling should go elsewhere. A crazy cross between The Fucking Champs and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.
