Begushkin

Formed in Brooklyn by multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Dan Smith, Begushkin's folk-influenced compositions echo the stark arrangements of Smog and the volatile imagery of Will Oldham or Flannery O'Connor. The group, which consists of a small army of Smith's friends, including violinist Stephanie Rabbins, guitarist/bassist Stephan Ryskewitch, accordion and saw player Cynthia Hopkins, and percussionist Josh Saltzman, released the eight-track Nightly Things on the Locust label in 2007. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
