2000, Acuarela
Resolutely self-determining, The Bitter Springs have been writing, recording, and performing their music for more than 20 years. 3 albums and 6 singles along the line – recorded for the highly regarded VESPERTINE, DISHY, and WURLITZER JUKEBOX- the Springs’ prolific song writing and emphatic recording, accompanied by universal critical acclaim, continues…"Best Bakers on the Island" is the tittle of the new Bitter Springs´ album, exclusively on Acuarela. It contains 4 brand new and unreleased songs ('Under the Rainbow', 'The Outskirts', 'Hollywood Decision', and 'Two Floor Bungalow'), a bunch of rare or out of print tracks, a few singles of the week in the Melody Maker, some remixes and three composicions from when they were called Last Party . Seventeen songs about the rage and the fury, laconic tales of ex-girlfriends, melancholic musings on kitchen-sink tragedies, the aching desire for escape through life-affirming romance, all pathos and intelligence shaded by accordions and violins. They have been compared to The Go-Betweens, Arab Strap, and Jarvis Cocker. "Best Bakers on the Island" features the colaboration of Vic Godard, Jack (of Hefner) and Edwyn Collins.
