2003, Planet Mu
An amazing return to form from Mike Paradinas: 12 tracks of hard breaks influenced electronic music harking back to his various pasts (the track "Meinheld" recalls '97's Lunatic Harness remixed by Remarc and "My Mengegus" could have been off Tango N'Vectif). But much of the album charts new territory, like the opening track "Johnny Maastricht" which mixes the new 2-step "hardcore garage/rave" sound with µ-Ziq's trademark melodic sensibilities and the "Grape-Nut Beats" duo of tracks which mix 6/8 gabber-techno; old skool rave and nu-skool breaks with bassline ragga hardtek. "On/Off" features the vocal talents of Mike Dykehouse (another Planet µ artist) embellishing a dirty-bass electroish anthem (definitely nothing like that "electroclash" thing though - apparently).
