2005, Ipecac
London trio Guapo are no strangers to releasing great music. Black Oni is their 6th release to date, and the 2nd record in a trilogy that is one singular piece of music (the 1st was Five Suns 2002). The follow-up to Black Oni will come out later this year on Neurot Recordings.
Heady and hypnotic, driving and relentless, tumultuous and visceral, sonic and serene, the sheer odyssey that is Black Oni encompasses many paradoxes in it's massively dynamic scope. Incorporating elements of Prog, Avant-Garde Jazz, Kraut-Rock, Minimalism and a range of Folk mediums from Britain to Indonesia, Guapo take their cue from a disparate array of influences including Magma, King Crimson, Boredoms, Goblin, Sun Ra, Charlemagne Palestine, Univers Zero, This Heat, Olivier Messiaen and Popol Vuh.
