Partie Traumatic (CD)
Partie Traumatic is the debut release from indie rock darlings Black Kids, a bracing and invigorating affair with no small amount of hype behind it. Produced by ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler and featuring the singles "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" and "HurricaneJane", this record balances the zeal of youth with an arch, almost literary twist. Though the songs themselves are rip-roaring, the sentiments behind them often sum up simple emotional and social truths deftly. With influences ranging from60s guitar pop to 80s post-punk, Partie Traumatic is intelligent and fun guitar music for the noughties audience.

| Reminiscent of the early 80s pop bands from England, singer Reggie's voice has a high pitch lure to it that reels in its victims and locks lyrics and tune into the audience's head. The album is meant for house parties and repeated play between sets at a club, catching some listeners off-guard and prompting them to ask, 'Who sings this song?' but is hard to keep on repeat when listening to it alone, or straight through. Overall, this album is a must-have for mixtapes and first semester college dorm-room play. | |
