2003, Recordhead/Whiggs
The IMPOSSIBLE SHAPES have bid farewell to the home recorded sound of their previous efforts, and welcomed outside
producers and their blissful one-and two-inch analog recording equipment. The results of this switch is the band's fourth
proper full length release-‘Bless The Headless ’..The excitement and magic the Shapes have been known to deliver time
and again during their live show has been captured here on these recordings. The more fully realized feel and consistancy
of 'Bless'can be attributed to the help of Bill Doss (Sunshine Fix,Olivia Tremor Control)and Paul Mahern (Superchunk,
Zero Boys)while recording the band at World As Myth and Echo Park Studios, respectively. The latter of which, now
known as Mahan Kalpa Singh, also handled the mixing and mastering duties at Echo Park. While their previous releases
have been compared to the likes of Syd Barrett and Elf Power,'Bless The Headless'is a recording reminiscent of Pearls
Before Swine,Love,Soft Machine, and Television -tinged with vivid imagery and beautiful psychedelia. The IMPOSSIBLE
SHAPES are:CHRIS BARTH,AARON DEER,JASON GROTH,PETER KING,and MARK RICE.Through and through,
Chris delivers his trademark whimsically delightful lyrics, while the band turn in their most powerful performances to date.
