Blooming Summer

Blue Hawaii is Alex Cowan and Raphaelle Standell-Preston. Their debut release Blooming Summer, a studio album, references the pairs' travels through tropical Central America - but was written and recorded in the harsh Montreal winter. Beautiful haunting female vocal harmonies are layered upon a lush harmonic and rhythmic structure to provide a nostalgic but optimistic foray into pop orientated dance music. Girls and boys, they love in the color blue. . . Blooming Summer was previously available as a cassette, and is now released as a digipak CD by popular demand - this edition features new artwork and two bonus tracks. "Floral" was recorded live off-the-floor onto an 8-track tape machine. This process is in contrast to the rest of the album, and features Austin Tufts and Taylor Smith of Braids on drums and bass respectively. They also add "Dream Electrixra," as remixed by fellow Arbutus artist David Carriere (Silly Kissers).
