Bobby Birdman
Bobby Birdman is the moniker under which Rob Kieswetter performs. Originally from the Portland, Oregon area, Kieswetter toured extensively as a supporting musician for Will Oldham. Compared to experimental artists such as John Cage and Yoko Ono, Bobby Birdman has toured throughout the United States with Little Wings and Badger King. In 2001, the band was signed to the Hush Records label and entered the studio to work on its debut album. In November 2001, Born Free Forever was released. Rob Kieswetter's parents may have thought it a little strange when blood started trickling from his mouth as he launched into a performance of So The Blood off his latest slab-o-silver for HUSH, Born Free Forever. Blood capsules, fake beards, camp outs and general mayhem are all business as usual for this young performer going by the stage name of Bobby Birdman. Off stage, Rob approaches his songwriting with the same spirit of subversion and what-the-hell creativity. This is a NESD zone, friends. (No Elliot [ read more ]

On "Heart Caves" Rob Kieswetter (AKA BOBBY BIRDMAN) trades in his nylon string for a G4 laptop, and his "lo-fi" wall of sound productions for clean-as-a-whistle hi-tech robotic sheen. But the icy production is wonderfully corrupted by the undeniable warmth of his smooth tenor. "Heart Caves" is a one-night stand: tender, desperate, awkwardly intimate, hot, eerily objective, disconnected, and ultimately kind of melancholy. But in a good way. It's sublime -- and we're still all having fun, right?!?! OK Then. L [ read more ]

Bobby Birdman is back with his 3rd EP released on States Rights Records. Giraffes and Jackals was something of a double concept EP about the duality of human beings and relations between said humans. The songs find a really strong harmony between self study, exploration, and pop sensibilities make this Birdman's most com [ read more ]

Bobby Birdman is the alter ego of Rob Kieswetter, a singer/songwriter who makes ample use of the acoustic guitar but who also injects new elements into his quiet music with the use of wild, atmospheric electronics. His sparse, computerized accompaniment and sullen, whispery vocals are akin to many dreamy solo artists singing their woes, and his more abstract selections are as out there as some of the weirder moments captured on tape by the quietly beautiful avant-garde shock artists {$Joan of Ar [ read more ]
