2006, Warp
It seems like a new start for Clark, Body Riddle is meditative, simplified but with more musical colour, subtle sonics, melody and rhythm, the drill and bass workouts of older work seem to have been left behind, with Chris finding the confidence to do exactly what he wants and do it really well. This album sets him apart and establishes him firmly as a major Warp talent. Body Riddle seems designed to leave a lasting impression, pull on your heart strings, and also to sound very fresh, so give it some space this autumn; you will fall in love with it.

Customer Reviews

Josh H.A true masterpiece by Clark, and quite possibly the most overlooked treasure of 2006. "Herr Bar" and "Ted" were undeniably the best electronic songs of the year, and some of the best songs in general. But it doesn't stop there, and that's why it deserves this high of a rating. From the almost ambient-like "Frau Wav"/"Springtime Epigram" combo to the more raucous "Roulette Thrift Run" (also one of the best songs on the album) and the crushing (heh) closer "The Autumnal Crush" (the only one to feature any actual words, one line: "And I still miss you"), it's a cohesive collection of minor songs that have a generally mysterious feel to them. Think Aphex Twin's "Chosen Lords", but with more emphasis on drums. Highly recommended!
