2006, Profile/Arista
Instead of joining the G-Funk movement during the '90s, DJ Quik created his own style of P-Funk with equal nods to Roger Troutman (Zapp), Geaorge Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic) and N.W.A. (Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E). The first one-man hit squad, he produced tracks with an unadulterated love for the music, while writing rhymes with miles of laid-back style. The 1991 debut, Quik Is The Name, immediately established DJ Quik as a new force in West Coast hip-hop and heralded the arrival of one of the most extraordinary producers to come out of Compton. Throughout his career he has produced hit after hit with one Platinum and three Gold albums of his own plus numerous production credits on hits for everyone from 2Pac and Jay-Z to Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.
