Brian Chase and Seth Misterka

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Brian Chase and Seth Misterka are a freethinking sonic duo intent on bringing back the vigor and spontaneity of 60's experimental free jazz whilst introducing a modern approach that's entirely their own.
Through the introduction of shared friends, Brian and Seth came together in 2005 (this sounds like a Woody Allen love affair) at one of Seth's regular experimental music nights in Brooklyn. With a shared approach to music, Brian and Seth immediately connected and began recording what was to be become their debut self titled album, released in 2007 on Heathen Skulls (HS007).

Brian Chase is best know for his impressive work as drummer in New York based rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as his playing in New York experimental music circles. His companion in sound Seth Misterka is a highly regarded, downtown saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist who has worked with a wide range of artists from avant jazz legends Anthony Braxton and William Parker to electronic indie acts Hot Chip and Dynasty Electric. Together they create a unique form of minimalist no-wave free jazz that at times resembles the likes of Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, and Ornette Coleman and other times the likes of DNA, Sonic Youth’s SYR series of releases, and John Zorn.
"The Shape of Sound" is the follow up to their 2007 self-titled album, both of which were recorded in Seth’s home studio and produced by Brian Chase and Seth Misterka.
