VINYL FORMAT. Reissue includes bonus track. Perhaps realizing that their time on a major label was likely limited, Built to Spill made a gutsy choice for Keep It Like a Secret, their second album for Warner Brothers. They embraced the sounds of a big studio and focused their sound without sacrificing their fractured indie-rock aesthetic. In a sense, this is Built to Spill's pop album: every song is direct and clean, without the long, cerebral jamming that characterized their earlier albums. That's no [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. Reissue features previously unreleased bonus track "Easy Way". Not many groups would take a major-label contract as a cue to release an album where the shortest song is a very radio-unfriendly five minutes in length. For that, listeners can thank their lucky stars that Built to Spill isn't like many groups -- and that frontman Doug Martsch isn't like many artists. Using Warner's bigger budgets and distribution, Martsch and company have made an album at once inspiring and quietly emotional.

Order There Is No Enemy and receive a link to download the album track "Hindsight" immediately after check-out! VINYL FORMAT. Three and a half years in the making, the efforts of writing and recording There Is No Enemy led Built to Spill founder Doug Martsch to wonder whether this would be the last album he ever makes. For this release, song lyrics were labored over then thrown in the trash, guitar parts revised again (and again). A musician and artist like Doug Martsch edits [ read more ]

With There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Idaho native and former Treepeople singer-guitarist Doug Martsch brings the lush pop-rock of the Beatles and Beach Boys kicking and screaming into the Sonic Youth-era. Built To Spill marries the timeless and the modern so naturally that even brilliant, like-minded contemporaries like Guided By Voices and the Flaming Lips seem calculated. None of these songs crosses the dreaded four-minute mark. Maximum heavy-pop pleasure is squeezed into concise verse-chorus-vers [ read more ]
