VINYL FORMAT. One of the most critically acclaimed of modern rock bands, Built To Spill returns with its long-awaited album, the first in five years. Putting aside extensive overdubs and an atmosphere sweep, You in Reverse captures the organic, loose, impromptu feel of the band's jams. Led by influential alt-rock hero Doug Martsch and sprouting new influences and a fresh feel, Built To Spill drives ahead with You in Reverse.

User Reviews

Wow. I was afraid after Ancient Melodies of the Future that maybe Built to Spill had lost it a little. I mean, I liked that album alright, but I didn't love it. I loved There's Nothing Wrong With Love after my first listen, which is very, very rare for me. You In Reverse is coming in a close second as my favorite BTS album. I first listened to it at 3AM with my best headphones and I don't think the happy grin left my face from beginning to end. Not many albums could follow up a starting song as strong as "goin' against your mind", but this one pulls it off. Thank you Doug Martsch!

"You in Reverse" is a welcome return to Built to Spill's shamble-rock past. Doug has always sounded best when he is being excessive and a little sloppy and on this album he manages to reinsert a portion of both into his music. While this doesn't come close the indie ephemera of "There's Nothing Wrong With Love" or "Perfect from Now On," it is a refreshing look back to the days when a person could make a hell of an album with only six strings.

Michael Britten - Keansburg, NJ, USA
More likely remembered as evolutionary than revolutionary, You In Reverse does usher in a welcome step forward for Built To Spill. Tried-and-true works, but leaves little room for excitement, as Ancient Melodies Of The Future showed. Far from perfect, and well distanced from Perfect From Now On, You In Reverse still links up with that circa-1997 statement; Built To Spill still have the courage to deliver the unexpected, and the new rough-and-tumble attitude the band is employing more closely matches its name than anything churned out since.

I really like this album, I was surprised how good it was. I love the song "Goin Against Your Mind". It is their most rocking song I have ever heard. It's a long one though, like 9 minutes. I recommend getting this album - you will like it.
