You Are Free (CD)
The long awaited new album from one of the most powerful voices and minds of her generation or any other, "You Are Free" marks Chan Marshall's first album of original material in nearly four years. Achingly beautiful and carefully crafted, "You Are Free" is most assuredly not easy listening. Great albums rarely are. Features guest appearances from Bill Callahan and (no joke) Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl.

| I have a resolute weakness for every song on this album. 'Moon Pix' is one of my favorite albums of all time and I think 'The Greatest' is, well, the greatest. But for some reason, the simplicity and unfettered sadness of this album makes me think it's the most honest and personal of all of Chan's albums. This is the album that makes me want to quit my job and pursue a career writing songs. But it's the album that makes me think I could never do it because no one can ever match what Chan can do. Essential listening for the brokenhearted. | |
