2004, Lookout! Records
There's certainly no pop in the Cost's punk; rather, the group favors a {hard rock} attack that boasts an anger-riddled loud/soft dynamic and calls to mind the murkier, harder-edged sounds of early-'90s Seattle or any-decade Orange County. Hated Man and No One's Looking are the calling cards here. The former features a wonderfully chaotic opening of cluttered and stumbling drums, then surges into a boldly anti-melodic {hard rock} attack. No One's Looking, meanwhile, is packed with escalating, groaning guitars and red-faced vocal fury. This is a tightly played and aggressive effort that succeeds most when it steers clear of the doomier, sludgy moments. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide
