2004, Polyvinyl
VINYL FORMAT. Fronted by William Seidel (THE PROMISE RING, CAMDEN) and Ryan Weber (THE PROMISE RING), DECIBULLY includes seven members playing a variety of instruments ranging from guitar, bass, and percussion to keyboards, banjo, lapsteel, and strings. Though extracted from disparate musical backgrounds, the group has found a common ground in mixing traditionalism with technology. DECIBULLY mines a unique sound, finely interspersing layers of country-esque flourishes with subtle electronic twinges and rockist undertones - topping it all off are lyrics rife with aching, world-weary quixotism. Supporting a strong DIY concept, in 2002 the band self-released their first album "You May Be a Winner..." which landed them comparisons to THE SHINS and PORTASTATIC in Magnet. The online publication Action Attack Helicopter went so far as to compare the debut to BECK's "Sea Change" yet distinguishing itself through "bearing the most fruit with sweeping choruses, thick percussion, keen guitar lines and memorable vocal harmonies". This October, the band returns with City of Festivals on Polyvinyl Records (PRC-066). Sure to appeal to fans of JEFF BUCKLEY, WILCO, and THE PROMISE RING, City of Festivals will certainly become an original, fresh cornerstone in any record collection.
