Coastal's music borders on reverent. Restraint and simplicity are instrumental to their overall sound; smooth basslines, wispy drum movements, melodic, delayed guitar work, a delicate vocal presence, and subdued organ keys all combine to make the music flow with a relaxed simplicity that is truly beautiful. The Utah band self-released a five-song CDR last year when they were known as Infrared (they changed their name to avoid confusion with another band called Infrared). Those songs have been remastered and combined with three new recordings for their self-titled debut on Words on Music. Eight wonderfully melancholic songs infused with an understated beauty that is equally vibrant and fragile.
