Sierra sings and plays guitar and flute; Bianca sings and does percussion (which includes rattling things, making things squeak, shaking a gold chain belt). Together they present twelve luminously haunting songs, recorded in a tiny apartment in the 18th District of Paris during the spring of 2003.

| How two lunatics managed to find time between drawing on mustaches and buying Victorian hats to make this album is beyond me. An unassuming classic, La Maison de Mon Rêve melds the maudlin brilliance of early radio broadcasts, fractured opera and tinny rag-tag folk. Eerily oddball Parisian Neil Youngisms are abundant, as are fake bird and toy piano samples, but this steers a wide berth from novelty. Instead, CocoRosie?s shabby brilliance is transcendent, honest and beautiful. The perfect album to seduce baristas, Conor Oberst and general issue romantics. Extra points for the shout-out to Skittles. | |
