2010, American Dust
VINYL FORMAT. Garotas Suecas ("Swedish Girls" in Portuguese) come raging from Sao Paolo, Brazil - five boys and a girl playing fuzzed-out, psychedelic garage rock nu-Tropicalia. Their influences range from Otis Redding to Os Mutantes, and the band's sound is funky and full-bodied: an infectious and danceable organ-drenched brew. Already MTV Video Award winners in their native Brazil, Garotas are headed to the States for a two-week tour in March, including dates at SXSW and on both coasts. This 7-inch precedes a brand-new album to be released Stateside in Fall 2010. "Garotas Suecas shouldn't merely be listened to or witnessed; they should be absorbed. . . Yes, they'll remind you of Os Mutantes and the like, but Garotas Suecas is more revelation than resurrection." - Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney) / NPR.org
