Nearly twenty years ago, Peter Searcy was the singer of one of the most important and influential punk bands to come out of Louisville, and the 80's for that matter, SQUIRREL BAIT. Their energetic and unintentionally brilliant teenage punk rock turned the heads of everyone from their inspirations (notably HUSKER DU'S Bob Mould) to the mainstream press (yes, Spin was quoted as saying Peter had "the best voice in rock and roll next to Paul Westerberg"). Peter's decision to enter the realm of solo artist in the late '90s was a logical step, as he'd been the singer and primary songwriter for his last two bands and the focal point of SQUIRREL BAIT. In 2000, he released his first solo album, "Could You Please And Thank You." That album quickly sold over 15,000 copies, but the label Time Bomb's abrupt closing soon after the album's release squashed its growth and left Peter Searcy in label limbo. The new record is the humbly titled "Couch Songs," Peter's first release in over three years and without a doubt among the strongest in his recorded history. This is Peter Searcy as we've never heard him, sounding at once familiar yet surprisingly different. "Couch Songs" presents one of the best and most unmistakable voices of the last twenty years of rock music in its most honest and natural state.
