Crooked Fingers

ARTIST MAINARTIST INFORELATED ARTISTSLINKSREVIEWS

Crooked Fingers was the solo project of singer/guitarist Eric Bachmann, best known as the longtime frontman for North Carolina indie rock institution Archers of Loaf. A onetime saxophone major at Appalachian State University, he co-founded the Archers in Chapel Hill in late 1991; quickly emerging as a major local favorite, the band's off-kilter noise pop broke through on national college radio two years later with the release of the single "Web in Front," followed by a series of acclaimed LPs including 1994's Icky Mettle and 1996's All the Nation's Airports. ...[more]

Red Devil Dawn is the third full-length from Crooked Fingers, and the first to be released on Merge Records. Crooked Fingers is the latest project from one of the rock underground's most enigmatic songwriters, Eric Bachmann. Eric got his first bit of recognition as the front man for the Archers Of Loaf, one of the most popular and critically lauded bands of the mid-to-late '90s underground scene. With the release of Red Devil Dawn, we witness the continued growth of Bachmann as a singular arti   [ read more ]

You may remember Eric Bachmann, either from his recent days with the seminal indie-rock band Archers of Loaf, or from his solo soundscape outings as the neoclassical Barry Black. Either way, Eric Bachmann is an artist who's constantly pushing the envelope of modern music. His latest project, Crooked Fingers, is no exception, as Bachmann blends a mix of drunken beer hall rants (a la the Pogues) with poignant songs in the vein of Nick Drake or Leonard Cohen. His lyrics continue to invoke the dark imagery whic   [ read more ]

Crooked Fingers mastermind Eric Bachmann has come a long way since his post-punk days with Chapel Hill indie darlings Archers of Loaf. His metamorphosis from the angular white-noise-maker who roared like a drunk lion on 1994's Icky Mettle into the rootsy troubadour who penned 2003's spirited Red Devil Dawn has reached completion on the world-weary and Spanish-tinged Dignity and Shame. Opening with the lonely, Morricone-inspired instrumental "Islero," Bachmann provides the audio   [ read more ]
