2010, Crossroads of America
Hailed as genuine and sincere as well as lush and eclectic, husband&wife first garnered national attention with their 2006 self-released album, operation:surgery. In the nearly three years that have followed, husband&wife have not been idle. The band has re-leased two EPs and numerous tracks on various compilations, re-corded for Daytrotter.com and toured extensively. They have also begun their own record label, Crossroads of America Records. Intially intended to support operation:surgery, the label has grown into a family including 18 releases by nine bands. After three years with-out a new album, husband&wife is about to up the ante.
Dark Dark Woods is rich and deep showcasing three years of songwriting and time spent fusing the band's varied influences. The album benefits tremendously from recording done at Farm Fresh Studios in Bloomington, IN using a blend of analog tape and digital recording to create a warm cohesive sound that permeates the record and ties the songs together. Endearing lyrics and melodies echoing gospel and old time rock n' roll form the backbone of songs fleshed out by expansive musical landscapes created by layered percussion and guitar work. husband&wife stay true to form on the record, defying verse/chorus song structures for a more linear songwriting style, while ignoring the urge to fill the songs with unnecessary, claustrophobic clutter creating a wide open, sprawling sound all their own.
