VINYL FORMAT. Ikonika returns to Planet Mu following her debut album on Hyperdub and lots of work as an in-demand remixer and a brilliant DJ. In contrast to the recent album, these three new tracks have a sad, emotional quality and pared-down, minimal production that shares as much with techno as it does with dubstep. "Dckhdbtch" kicks off with a punchy, soca-ish white-noise drum pattern before Ikonika's infamous crying synth melodies break out into bittersweet euphoria. "Ingredients" opens with dark chords and minimal, slapping drums while slowly introducing fragile, chilling orchestral strings that sound like incidental music stolen from a dramatic moment of a film. "Shouldn't Be Here" is the most "techno" of the tracks: huge, sorrowful chords backed by 4/4 beat and accented by an undulating baseline. A passionate, far-away female vocal and soft lead melody only heightens the track's sad nature.
