I'm Not Your Soldier Anymore (CD)
Hot new Memphis-style barbecued soul coming at you via Toronto, Canada: may we introduce rock 'n' roll band extraordinaire, The Deadly Snakes. In 1999, this six-piece band invited Greg Oblivian, formerly of the Memphis garage/soul/punk band The Oblivians, to produce their album. Upon hearing them, Greg was so taken with their music that he not only wanted to be their producer, but he wanted to be in the band. So Greg produced the album, and then hit the road with them as their second guitarist/lead vocalist. The resulting album, "I'm Not Your Soldier..." features all original material and perfectly blends rock, punk, and soul (they even have a horn section), while showing off the band's maverick musicianship and songwriting skills. But how could it not? With no fewer than three different lead vocalist/songwriters, influences run the gamut -- Stax soul, Rolling Stones-style R&B raunch, backwoods blues -- you name it, they've got it.
