Deception Pass

Deception Pass is the fourth album by D+, the Anacortes, WA band comprised of Karl Blau, Phil Elverum (The Microphones/ Mount Eerie) and Bret Lunsford (Beat Happening). It's creation overlaps that of last year's Mistake, Karl's Clothes Your I's and Mount Eerie, and it benefits from that creative flood. Lunsford continues to write organic lo-fi songs from a folk-punk perspective that are unmistakably rooted in the graceful clunkiness of his first band's music. D+ collaboration increases on Deception Pass, with Phil and Karl taking more vocal turns and applying their multi-instrumental genius to simple song structures; sometimes leaving them unadorned, or alternately driving them in strange directions. Those who want to make thematic connections between Deception Pass, Clothes Your I's and Mount Eerie will not be discouraged, as each of them focus on similar terrain of life/death/nature.
