Desertshore

VINYL FORMAT. While Nico was the member of the Velvet Underground who had had the least experience in music prior to joining the group (although she'd recorded a pop single in England, she'd never been a member of a working band before Andy Warhol introduced her to the Velvets), she was also the one who strayed farthest from traditional rock & roll after her brief tenure with the band. By the time she recorded "Desertshore," her work had little (if anything) to do with traditional Western pop. This 1970 Reprise Records album finds Nico reunited with her Velvet Underground bandmate John Cale as producer, main instrumentalist, and harmony vocalist. Coproduced by Joe Boyd (legendary producer of Nick Drake, Sandy Denny, and Incredible String Band), "Desertshore" contains eight songs of deep haunting beauty featuring Nico's dark voice and harmonium and is one of her very best solo albums (also used as soundtrack for the 1971 Philippe Garrel's experimental French film La Cicatrice Interieure).
