2002, Shinkansen

PS, UK It's witty, it's sassy, it's literate, it's classy... and it's scattered with songs that all know how to pack a glittery soulful punch in under 3 minutes, just like all good pop music should. Second album from Fosca, led by Dickon Edwards of former Blanco Y Negro act and Melody Maker cover-stars Orlando. Prior to that, Dickon was in Shelley, who recorded one single for Sarah Records, and he has also played guitar for Spearmint. This is a ten track album clocking in at barely half an hour, and each and every track was considered as a potential single, every one, short and sweet! Producer Ian Catt (St Etienne, Trembling Blue Stars, Kylie, Shampoo, etc) has blended the lyrical needles and barbs perfectly with the dance beats, keys, guitars and cello that are the hallmark of Fosca's sound. Musical reference points might be The Smiths, Kraftwerk, The Field Mice, Roxy Music, Air, Sparks, The Velvet Underground, Bowie and St Etienne, literary reference points would include Oscar Wilde, Quentin Crisp and Ivor Cutler. Recently described by one wag as "Pulp meets The Shangri-Las.
