Before Braid and Hey Mercedes, Bob Nanna was singing and playing drums in the very influential Chicago band, Friction. The band made up of Bob Nanna, Scott Broadhurst (bass) and Andy Knudsen (guitar) was part of the early '90s Chicago indie/punk scene that also spawned brother band, Cap 'n Jazz. Friction were known for their high-energy live performances, and over the course of three years, played with such bands as Jawbreaker, Samiam, The Smoking Popes, Avail, as well as many, many Cap’n Jazz shows.
