2010, I, Absentee
Sow is Anna Wildsmith of France, with a revolving line-up of backing musicians. Previously on Martin Atkins' (Public Image Ltd, Killing Joke) Invisible Records, Wildsmith also toured as both a live member and featured act for his legendary Pigface group. However, Sow is primarily known for her work with Raymond Watts of Pig (Wax Trax! Records, Trent Reznor's Nothing Records). Other notable past Sow players have included many of the foremost experimental musicians of the past twenty years, including Sascha Konietzko (KMFDM), J.G. Thirlwell (Foetus), Jon Caffery (Einsturzende Neubauten, Kids On TV), Bryan Black (Motor), Günter Schulz (KMFDM) and many more. For just the third studio album in twenty years, Wildsmith once again enlisted Raymond Watts (Pig, KMFDM), as well as Rob Henry (Euphonic, Children Of The Bong) to write the music, with a guest appearance from Steve White (KMFDM, 16 Volt). The album is produced by Pig, Sow and Euphonic and sees Wildsmith steer into more up-tempo directions from past works, reinventing their sound for a new decade. The album ranges from club-driven pop to introspective classical pieces, to energetic rock songs. It's as diverse as anything you'll likely hear this year, yet forms together as fluid piece with Wildsmith's distinct vocals. The highly anticipated project is easily Sow's greatest achievement to date, as well as the most widely appealing album of their twenty year history. Never ones to rush their craft, Dog marks the first release from Sow in a staggering twelve years, recorded over the span of a decade!
